Selling your unwanted items is one of the oldest and easiest ways to make a little bit of extra money. Here is my guide to selling online, the pros, the cons and everything you would need to know in-between.

New to selling online? Here are my tips and tricks to make the most money and not go insane in the process...

EBAY

Probably the oldest and most well known method of selling your unwanted goods online. Its tried, its tested but is it still the best option out there? Well, it really depends on what you're selling and whether you really want to pay those extra selling fees.

Overall, eBay is a trusted method. I was able to make over £400 listing unwanted books and vinyl on eBay in 2022. However, the high selling fees mean that eBay is starting to fall out of favour compared to other selling sites.

DEPOP

Depop is an app, which allows you to sell your unwanted goods. Mainly focused on fashion and a younger demographic, Depop is popular with those hunting out trendy, vintage pieces at cheap prices. Although, it is just not limited to fashion. Books, home items and beauty products plus a lot more can be sold on the app.

Overall, Depop is a good app to use. I've managed to sell a few books and vinyl on there over the years. However, like eBay you still incur the selling fees. Depop is best for selling trendy, vintage and retro fashion aimed at a younger demographic. If you have those items lying around- then why not give it a go.

VINTED

You would be hard missed not to have seen an ad recently for Vinted. The newest kid on the block, with the main selling point, of having no selling fees. It seems to good to be true? Well, I've been testing it and it's pretty good. I've sold multiple items and not *touch wood* had a bad experience yet.

Overall, Vinted is a good place to sell your unwanted items. It's a very convenient place to sell my old books. It's not made me a lot of money so far but its more than I would make donating them, so I can't complain.

FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

Another well loved method of selling your unwanted items, Facebook Marketplace is the perfect place to sell large, bulky unwanted items including furniture which would not be easy to sell elsewhere.

Overall, Facebook Marketplace wouldn't be my first choice for selling goods online which can easily be posted through the mail. However, if you are needing to shift some furniture quickly and you need the extra cash, Facebook Marketplace is going to be your best bet.

I hope you found this beginners guide to selling online useful.
